INFLUENCE OF DIGITALIZATION OF SCHOOL PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT ON TEACHERS’ PRODUCTIVITY IN PRIVATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN FCT

Abstract

The study examined the influence of digitalization of school personnel management on teachers’ productivity in private secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria. Specifically, the study addressed three research questions and tested three hypotheses related to the impact of digitalization on various aspects of school personnel management. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study, focusing on the digitalization processes of recruitment, communication, and attendance management. To gather the necessary data, a self-designed questionnaire was utilized, targeting a total population of 345 respondents, which included 322 teachers and 23 principals, all selected randomly. The collected quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the results were presented in tables to provide a clear understanding of the findings. The findings of the study revealed that the digitalized recruitment process significantly influences teachers' productivity by streamlining the hiring process, ensuring that qualified and competent teachers are employed. Similarly, the use of digital communication tools enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of information dissemination among staff, thereby fostering a more collaborative and well-informed working environment. Additionally, the digital management of attendance ensures accurate tracking of teachers’ presence, which is crucial for maintaining discipline and accountability within the schools. The results conclusively indicated that the digitalization of school personnel management has a substantial positive impact on teachers' productivity in private secondary schools in the FCT. Based on these findings, the study recommends the organization of regular workshops and short courses for principals to keep them updated on the latest trends and best practices in the digitalization of school personnel management. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of procuring state-of-the-art digital devices and ensuring the availability of alternative power supplies to support the effective implementation of digital tools in school management. The study underscores the potential benefits of digitalization in enhancing the overall efficiency and productivity of school personnel, ultimately contributing to the improved productivity of teachers and the quality of education provided in private secondary schools in the FCT.
