IMPACT OF SOCIAL STUDIES IN MINIMIZING YOUTH RESTIVENESS AMONG SOME JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ZARIA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KADUNA STATE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEMOCRACY

Abstract

The study examined the Impact of Social Studies in Minimizing Youth Restiveness among some Junior Secondary Schools in Zaria Local Government Area, Kaduna state. The study raised three objectives and three research questions. Descriptive research design of survey type was used in the stud. The population of the study was 25,307 students spread across 28 public secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area. From the population, seven secondary school were purposively selected for the study, from which 210 students comprising 105 males and 105 females 31ere selected as sample, using simple random sampling technique. The data for the study was collected though self-generated questionnaire titled Impact of Social Studies in Minimizing Youth Restiveness Questionnaire (ISSMYRO) on four-likert scale response. Mean scores, standard (deviation and t-test statistics were used to analyze the data gathered. Findings from the study revealed that Social Studies Education impacted positively on the students regarding to quell youth restiveness. The study also, found that there was no significant difference between class level, gender and location regarding the impact of Social Studies Education on youth restiveness. The study recommended that teaching and learning facilities should be adequately provided in schools lo motivate and encourage teachers. This will enable effective impartation of Social Studies curriculum contents to the students.
