INFLUENCE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT ON TRAVEL SATISFACTION: EVIDENCE FROM PUBLIC TRANSPORT PASSENGERS

Abstract

The main objective of the study is to examine the influence of public transport on travel satisfaction: evidence from public transport passengers. The study adopted a descriptive survey method to collect data from passengers and the instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire method. The type of data obtained for the study was the primary type. The population of the study was 360 passengers and the sample size for the study was 186 passengers. The passengers that took part in the study were drawn from the population through random sampling technique. The data collected was analysed using mean and standard deviation and a criterion mean of 3.00 was used for decision making. The findings of the study show that, there is a positive and significant relationship between travel comfort, fare level, vehicle neatness and travel safety with travel satisfaction. The study concluded that, travel comfort, fare level, vehicle neatness and travel safety have effect on travel satisfaction of public transport passengers. Based on these findings therefore, it is recommended that there should be improvement on travel comport, fare level, vehicle neatness and travel safety in order to improve its travel satisfaction.
