INFORMATION RESOURCEFULNESS AND ORGANISATIONAL VIABILITY OF SMEs IN YENAGOA METROPOLIS, BAYELSA STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study examines the empirical relationship between information resourcefulness and organisational viability among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Yenagoa Metropolis, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was employed, targeting registered SMEs across various sectors using a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected from 60 SME owners and managers using a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson Product Moment Correlation with SPSS version 25. Findings revealed a positive and statistically significant relationship between both information acquisition and utilisation with organisational viability, evidenced by correlation coefficients of .533 and .581 respectively. The study concludes that SMEs that actively acquire and utilize relevant information are more viable and adaptable to business uncertainties. Recommendations include the need for targeted capacity-building initiatives to enhance information management skills among SME operators.
