SELECTED NATIONAL NEWSPAPER'S COVERAGE OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY IN THE NIGERIAN WORKPLACE (2022-2024)
Abstract
This study examined the coverage of occupational safety in Nigerian workplaces from 2022–2024, analyzing two national newspapers: The Punch and Daily Trust. Through content analysis, the study evaluated the prominence, framing, sources, and formats used in occupational safety reporting. Findings revealed limited front-page placement, heavy reliance on regulatory sources, dominance of human-interest frames, and minimal use of investigative journalism. The study concludes that Nigerian newspapers underutilized their potential to drive workplace safety reforms and recommends greater emphasis on proactive reporting strategies.
