ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF DISCIPLINE AND DISCIPLINARY MEASURES IN THE NIGERIAN PUBLIC SECTOR
Abstract
This study is an assessment of the impact of discipline and disciplinary measures in the Nigerian public sector. The objective of the study is to ascertain how discipline and disciplinary measures influence workers’ productivity in the Nigerian public sector. The study focused on discipline, basic forms of discipline, causes of indiscipline in the Nigerian public sector, disciplinary measures, causes of disciplinary measures, types of disciplinary measures. The theoretical framework of the study is rooted in Max Weber theory of bureaucracy. The research work adopted a review research design. Using this method, secondary source of data which include the use of textbooks, journals written by different authors. The study found out that discipline and disciplinary measures influence workers’ productivity in the Nigerian public sector. The study recommended that various Heads and supervisors of the Nigerian Public sector should be made to undergo some short-term courses in management to enable them to know the essence of staff discipline and disciplinary measures and how to implement them appropriately.
