EXAMINING THE IMPACT OF PROCUREMENT PROCESS ON THE DELIVERY OF SOME SELECTED PROJECTS WITHIN KANO METROPOLIS, KANO STATE - NIGERIA

Abstract

There are significant factors associated with the procurement process of infrastructure that affect project delivery in terms of value for money. Poor project delivery due to ineffective procurement process across appears to be a lingering problem, this results in cost overrun that affect national development. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the impact of procurement process factors at project design on the delivery of some selected projects within Kano metropolis, Kano State. The study used both explorative and descriptive research design to collect quantitative data from works procurement professionals in the study area. Systematic random sampling was used to source one hundred and fifty (150) respondents from various works procurement entities within the study location and, one hundred and eight (108) questionnaires were administered as a sample size. Eighty two (82) responses representing 76.0 % were returned and used for the analysis. Descriptive statistics were used for factor ranking while multiple regression was used for the data analysis.The findings from this study indicated that a unit increase in project design factors will lead to a 26.7% increase in the scores of cost delivery of a project. Procurement stakeholders will find this study very important; the study established procurement process factors found to have significant influence on project cost delivery in the study area which will add to the existing literature on procurement process and serve as information for decision making to procurement professionals within the construction industry. Besides, clients, contractors and procurement managers can utilise the framework developed by this study for predicting the influence of procurement process on project cost performance of a particular project. This will assist procurement managers in strategic planning for achieving value for money.
