A REVIEW OF EFFORTS OF LEAGUE OF NATIONS IN ARMS CONTROL AND DISARMAMENT

Abstract
The increase of global insecurity has left academicians wondering if the initial efforts at arms control and disarmament laid a good foundation. The search for more robust and all-encompassing approaches has recently engaged scholars. This paper covers the conceptual approaches to arms control and disarmament as well as the pre-1945 efforts by the League of Nations at arms control and disarmament. The data for this study were collected from secondary sources such textbooks, journal articles and internet sources while content analysis was used to analysed data collected. The study revealed that though the League of Nations made some efforts in regulating arms control and disarmament but this efforts were faced by a number of challenges which are mainly International and Domestic challenges. Lastly, this study recommended among other things that nonproliferation treaties should be uphold and transparency should be the watch word in the arms control and disarmament process. When transparency is uphold, countries will co-operate and the possibility of attack will be greatly reduced.
