OPTIMIZATION OF SELF-COMPACTING CONCRETE CONTAINING METAKAOLIN AND CEMENT KILN DUST USING CENTRAL COMPOSITE DESIGN
Abstract
Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is an innovative concrete that requires little or no mechanical vibration during compaction. This research evaluates self-compacting concrete containing admixtures metakaolin and cement kiln dust. Portland limestone cement was partially replaced by metakaolin and cement kiln dust at different proportions in M20 grade concrete mix. Self-compacting concrete made with admixtures were assessed in terms of workability (Slump flow test, J-ring test, and V-funnel test), compressive and tensile strengths properties. Optimization was carried out using response surface central composite design. In conclusion, the engineering properties of SCC were assessed and model equations generated. The research finally recommends further study on the use of Metakaolin and Cement Kiln Dust in high strength concrete.
