TEACHERS’ PEDAGOGICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE AS CORRELATE OF EDUCATIONAL DELIVERY SYSTEM AMIDST DWINDLING ECONOMY AND NATIONAL INSECURITY

Abstract

This study examines teachers’ pedagogical skills and experience as correlate of educational delivery system amidst dwindling economy and national insecurity in Oyo East Local Government. The researcher adopted a survey approach for the study with a sample of two hundred (200) participants drawn from ten (10) schools. Two (2) instruments were used for this study. A two in one self-developed instruments tagged Teacher Pedagogical Skills Questionnaire (TPSQ), Teaching Experience Questionnaire (TEQ) and Observed Rating Scale on Educational Delivery System (ORSEDS) were used to elicit information from the participants. It was revealed that, there is a positive and strong linear relationship between pedagogical skills and educational delivery system and that teaching experience only contributed 13.3% of educational delivery system while pedagogical skills contributed 71.6%. Pedagogical skills predicted educational delivery system better as a result of 71.6% contribution at of 0.05 (p<0.05) level of significant, compared to teaching experience with only 13.3% contribution. It is therefore, recommended that there should be financial motivation and fringe benefits to enable the teachers to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently, teachers need to acquire enough pedagogical skills in order to engage the students in a most appropriate manner and training and retraining of teachers should be made a routine phenomenon to get them more equipped to better their profession.
