TEACHERS’ LESSON DELIVERY AND PRINCIPALS’ ADMINISTRATIVE EFFICIENCY IN PUBLIC SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NORTH WEST ZONE, NIGERIA

Abstract

Lesson delivery is an important aspect of teachers’ job functions which if carried out successfully, the objectives of delivering lessons can be achieved. This study was carried out to find the Relationship between teachers’ lesson delivery and principals’ administrative efficiency in public Senior Secondary Schools in north west zone, Nigeria. The research was a Correlation Research and a sample of 370 was drawn from the selected public senior secondary school teachers and principals in north west zone, Nigeria. The questionnaires were titled Teachers’ Lesson Delivery (TLDQ) with 28 items, and Principals’ Administrative Efficiency (PAEQ) with 15 items. The instruments were expert validated and after the validation, some items were modified, removed and added. A pilot study was conducted and the reliability index was computed using the Cronbach Alpha method of internal reliability. The reliability index obtained were 0.74, and 0.78 respectively. The data was collected by the researcher and two research assistants using Direct Delivery and Retrieval Technique (DDRT). Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to test hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance and analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Science. The study found that there is a positive and significant relationship between teachers’ lesson delivery and principals’ administrative efficiency in public senior secondary school in north west zone Nigeria. It was recommended that: teachers should make sure they are fully ready to deliver a lesson before entering the class (in terms of having their up to date lesson plan, lesson note, and knowledge of the subject, good introduction and lesson presentation). While on the part of principals, they should ensure that they go-round the classes  from time to time to make sure that teachers are engaged in lesson delivery as they should and correct them where necessary. Suggestions for further research were given and they include; similar study can be conducted to investigate the relationship teachers’ lesson delivery and principals’ administrative efficiency in private schools.
