RECONSIDERING SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION FOR CURRENT SOCIO ECONOMIC REALITIES IN FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, ZARIA KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract
The study is titled “Reconsidering Social Studies Education For Current Socio Economic Realities In Federal College of Education, Zaria Kaduna State, Nigeria”. This research employed a descriptive-analytical studies research design to evaluate reconsidering social studies education for socio-economic realities in Federal College of Education, Zaria Kaduna State. It is non-experimental, and conducted without interfering with the natural setting or manipulation of study variables. The population of the study consisted of social studies lecturers in federal college of education, Zaria, Nigeria numbering 43. The census purposive sampling technique was adopted due to the manageability of the population. The research instrument used to collect the data was a structured questionnaire titled Reconsidering Social Studies Education for Current Socio Economic Realities Questionnaire (RSSECSER). The questionnaire contains twenty (20) items divided into two sections. The instrument was duly validated by relevant experts and has reliability co-efficient index of 0.78 and 0.81 respectively for the two sections of the instrument. The data collected from the respondents were analysed Mean score, Standard Deviation and one sample t-test. The study found that Social Studies education is efficacious in tackling the current socio-economic realities and in Federal College of Education, Zaria. The study among others recommends a need to enhance the impact of Social Studies education on socio-economic realities, policymakers should prioritize the integration of contemporary socio-economic issues into the curriculum, invest in teacher training, and provide the necessary resources to support effective teaching and learning.
